There are no literature reports on the discovery of this sequence in other food-source proteins.
Biological/Functional activity & target protein
Antiviral activity

HIV-1 protease-inhibiting activity. Chemically synthesized IYEG showed the IC50 value of 22.3 uM. This peptide was approximately 10-fold more potent as a HIV-1 protease inhibitor than pepstatin A (IC50 = 250 uM), a characteristic inhibitor of aspartic proteases.

Additional information Although the peptide purified from thermolysin hydrolysate of manila clam proteins, the origin of this peptide is unclear, it may be come from some microbial proteins in manila clam (such as Physarum polycephalum actin, position: 165-168; Mycobacterium smegmatis ferredoxin, position: 25-28.)
